rfruth, Arctic Silver 5 is far more popular than it is effective. The first link shown below is to a very in-depth Thermal Interface Material (TIM) comparison which was conducted 2/2/07 on Tom's Forums by DaSickNinja. This 6 page thread is very revealing, however, the review itself has been moved to the second link shown below, Xtreme CPU. The bottom line? The best TIM is Masscoll Shin-Etsu X23, which can decrease your CPU's temperatures by about 4c compared to AS5.

Note: Due to Tom's servers forcing asterisks in the link below, when you click, it will cause "This page cannot be displayed". Simply backspace the 3 asterisks and type x-c-p-u-s without hyphens, then press enter.

That happens all the time cfvh600...Perhaps you could say misinformation, or it's just you didn't happen to come across something better than what you have/ use.

Lol, how I miss Ninja, Tacos, JumpingJack, plus Sharikou and MadModMike :)

Arctic MX-2 is their top end product and has been tested to be a little bit better(2-5%), AND non-conductive as well, which is a huge plus.

Very nice stuff for only a couple of dollars more(and a tiny tube IME lasts a dozen installs)

It appears to be only a little worse than the X23, but tons easier to find.(in any case, worlds better than the OEM stuff)

This is a great guide to most any paste application. Uber-thin after a light staining of the cpu and HS. Think microns instead of mm :) With a non-exposed core, the same thing applies, just a bigger area is all.
