I'm considering buying a 2560 x 1600 monitor. It would be nice to display very high resolution photos on my screen, and also use it for my work in AutoCAD. I just have a few questions..
I see Dell offers a good 30" monitor at 2560 x 1600, but I'm having trouble finding a price for it. I saw on amazon they range from $1200 to $1800.
If I wanted to play a game at a lower resolution, will this monitor be able to do that? Say I wanted to play crysis at 1920 x 1200 or 1920 x 1080 could I do that? I have an 8800gts 640mb right now but would definitely get SLI GTX's or something similar if I got this monitor. I just want to know if it will be able to change resolution like that.
Lastly, what's your experience with these? Have you seen them used for gaming at all? How about AutoCAD?
Right now I have a 47" LCD with 1920 x 1080 resolution that I'm using as a monitor. It works great but I would like something a bit smaller in size and higher resolution.
well if you want to play at the native resolution you will need atleast an 8800gtx sli! but to play at 1920 by 1200 i would say a single 8800gtx or gt will be able to cope with old games such as far cry. to play crysis at 1920 by 1200 you will need a 8800gt sli or 8800 gtx sli. but if you want to play at the native resolution for crysis and the newer games released ypu may need a 8800 ggtx or 8800 ultra sli. guna cost a bit
that's fine I'm ok with getting SLI video card as mentioned above. I'm more interested in finding out about the 30" 2560 x 1600 monitors.
Thanks for your response
My favourite is the Samsung 305T. If you care about HDCP the Dell is best because the 305T doesn't support it. If you care about gaming the Samsnug is best with 6 ms response time (Dell 11 ms).
the games will look blurry because the current game
native resolution will not match your screen resolution and i do beleive the 30" screen scales down.
in cad your font will look small (4pt) at your native resolution
I've had the dell 30" for months now. My single 8800gtx pushes it in 2560x1600 wonderfully, with full options in most games (very few things turned down in Hellgate). Guild Wars, Oblivion, HL2, all look incredible. I am very picky about my framerate, btw.
I got it from Dell for $1200, no special discounts, just a sale in July.
You have to use the Dual Link DVI cable that it comes with.
You run it in native resolution, which is your only option on the monitor. Your NVidia drivers handle the scaling and different resolutions, so you can run in any resolution you want to. You have to use the middle of 3 flat panel scaling options in the latest drivers. I think it's "Flat panel scaling, keep aspect ratio" or something like that. The top one will stretch stuff that's 4:3. Of course, maybe you like that...
Enjoy!

also the dell3007 doesn't really offer any kind of hdcp support as advertised since it doesn't offer an internal scaler and theres no dual link card that offers similar. i manage to find one a couple years back in the dell outlet website around $1000 and bought the extended warranty, which i already used, without a hassle. X1900XT 512MB used to be sufficient, but looking at the 768 gtxs now since crysis came out. scotty, i need more power.
