I'm "burning in" my friend's e2160 with Prime95 at stock speeds before I OC. I lowered my voltage to 1.225v to start because I know these things can run at crazy low voltages. In fact, I have my parent's e2160 OCed to 2.4Ghz at 1.2V 24hr Prime stable.

That said, I don't remember the temps I had with theirs, but this new one is REALLY cool - even with the dinky stock cooler. Here are the specs:

EVGA mobo nforce 630i/GeForce 7100
Corsair XMS PC6400 2GB
Pentium DC e2160 (1.8Ghz @ 1.225v)
CM 500W PSU

My idle temps are 25c and Prime95 load temps are 37-40c

Is that normal for this chip or is something up with CoreTemp (.96)?

Thanks!

There are so many versions of CoreTemp, and everything else for that matter, I don't know what to tell you.

I can run my E2160 @ 2.8 undervolted ~ 40C so you should probably download speedfan and compare the temps. There's also a Temp Guide by Computronix that's very helpful.

Good luck.

25C sounds awfully cool, but not impossible as long as the ambient temps are lower than 25C, which I suspect they are.

well, things are a bit more normal now. I OC'ed my friend's computer to 2.4 (just like my parents') and my idle temps hover around 30°c and my load temps hover around 48°c on stock cooling @ 1.225v so that seems pretty normal. Thanks for stopping by. Perhaps I just had a really cool night at first and didn't realize it. She's pretty happy with the results. Hell, for $300, who wouldn't be?

Specs:

EVGA mobo 630i/7100 w/onboard DVI/HDMI
E2160 @ 2.4Ghz
Corsair XMS 6400 2GB Cas5 @ 1600Mhz
160GB Maxtor SATA 7200RPM HDD
Cooler Master 500W PSU
Samsung 16x DVDRW DL
MM Flash Card Reader
PowerSpec MiniTower Case

All for $310. Damn, that's a nice internet/office computer!

that's a hell of a deal, I wish the prices were as low here in europe.....

I paid around €600 for almost the same system :(

yeah, it's a hell of a deal, but the prices aren't normally like this.

Got the PSU for $10 (after MIB) and there was a glitch in the system which automatically took off the MIB on the memory. 2GB PC6400 out the door - $35.

The e2160 was on sale for $60 and the mobo was on sale for $80. I was just in the right place at the right time.

BTW, Micro Center, the place I got it, has a walk-in special on the Q6600 - $199 (in-store only)

Picked up one of those too!
