Hi everyone - I'm desperate for some help here. A few months ago I bought a Seagate FreeAgent desktop 250Gb external hard drive and its been great all this time. I did something very dumb the other day and tripped over the USB wire that was connecting it to my laptop and it fell. When i tried to connect the USB(mini?) back into the external the port was loose and wiggling around inside the case. I opened it up and found that the port had disconnected from the circuitboard. I really just want to repair this as the rest of the drive is not damaged and I cannot afford to have the recovery done (they want 1700 for it!) can anyone tell me how to repair this or point me to a place that will do it

I live in a smaller town without a lot of computer repair specialist so I take my boards to a tv repair man. They are used to replacing chips and capacitors and soldering. If you have all the pieces ready, you probably could just walk in and watch him solder it :)

You could buy an external USB drive enclosure and move the physical hard drive into the new enclosure. It's not very difficult and won't cost much.
