hey there!
i want to get Call of Duty 4 and Crysis, and i know crysis will kill my PC but i dont run ultrahigh settings with AA or AF or softshadows or anything of the sort.

If i get an additional 2 gigs of ram for my system, an 8800GT, a creative x-fi xtremegamer and a Silverstone Element 500W psu (cause my stock 350watter wont cut it), will it provide a decent gaming experience? will it at least be better than my current 7950GT 512mb?

thanks again!

Over 2x better then your 7950GT. Possibly 3 in some situations.

Don't really need 2gb of ram TBH unless you will be using Vista 64 with like dual monitors but its so cheap now cant do any harm.

The HD3850 offers twice the performance of the 7950GT in Crysis and it's $180.

And at high details, the 8800GT destroys the 3850

So yeah, you'll see an improvement in Crysis with the 8800GT. ;)

how about the 3870? i know it doesnt perform as well as the 8800GT, but will i regret it if i buy it?

The 3870 is a bit cheaper, like ~$50-ish.

It gets a little more performance than the 2900XT, but not quite 8800GT performance.

If you can afford the extra $50, I'd go for the 8800, but if price is a big issue, the 3870 will do just fine.

The thing is with the 3870 you'll be ready for DX 10.1 and with the nvidia ya won't . Besides wait until both are completely tested on dx10 vista machines running crysis . There really are'nt any true tests performed yet at resolutions 90% of users are able to use anyway. Plus the drivers for the 3850 are just the first batch ,,, we all know they'll change very soon . Hard to tell what performance increase will occur . Plus what I have seen the 3850's are overclockable with stable results and nvidia overclocks from the factory to about the max for any stability .... none left .... oh how sweet these video wars will become !!!! --- :bounce: ---

i just heard about the 8800GTS SSC from evga... im confused :(:(:( - i think however, the best course of action is just preorder myself the 1gb 8800GTS G92 for xmas, which is the all-end-all graphics card is it not?
