Howdy; I have an non OC X1950 Pro with stock cooler (card is an ASUS crossfire). While playing Silent Hunter 3 I have noticed that I am starting to get jerky graphics when I didn't use too. This is making me wonder if my card cooler is crapping out on me. The card is running, without any graphics (ie just typing this message) at 57 Celcius and while running ATI Tools 3D cube it will gets into the high 90s. All this leads me to believe my card is running too hot. Correct?

I have tried finding out what the normal temp range is of this card but have been unsuccessful.

Thanks for your replies.

I have a Sapphire X1950 Pro with stock cooling and stock mem and clock speed. My cards idle at about 45-50c and under load get as warm as 70-75c. I don't think your card should be in the 90's though. It could be an error by ATI Tool, see if you can check it under your catalyst driver, while the card is under load.

Thanks for the replies guys. Got it worked out, it was my cooling software, or lack thereof. I tried using Smartdoc before but it would cause system lock ups and I read someplace that it wasn't really needed. However, since this post I found out ATITOOL has cooling ability in it so I have installed that, set my temps and all is ok now.

Thanks again.

Atitool's artifact tester will push the card hotter than any game though...
