I have my new system up and running and i am having a strange issue using an old 19inch crt
Its a Gateway EV910A
I don't know why but after upgrading from the default video drivers and rebooting. It comes back into 800 x 600 4 bit. The strange part was i borrowed someone elses crt monitor, installed the drivers, worked fine... plugged the gateway monitor back in and it also worked, even played quake wars on it. all worked fine until i rebooted and it went back into 800 x 600 4 bit.
The gateway website says this monitor doesnt need a driver since it uses windows xp plug & play.
Any ideas? If i could buy a cheap lcd i would but i blew all my cash on the new system.
It's because of the windows PnP (Plug and Play) installing crappy default drivers. You can go into device manager, go to monitors, and either uninstall your monitor driver (this will unlock any resolution that your graphics card will support) or install a new driver (possibly from another monitor w/ similar specs to yours. Most LCD's shouldn't go below 1024x768 or 1280x1024.

I installed the drivers from my friends crt and then plugged my monitor in, it did actually work on the reboot, was able to play quake wars, however i did try to run 3dmark and it would crash on open, but when switching to friends monitor it worked... hrmm, not sure im going to get it working any better though ...
