Hello,
I hav 2 HDD. Primary HDD is installed with Win Xp Pro and in the secondary HDD, recently I installed Win 7 Home Premium. Quite a few days, I am able to see all the disk drives. I ran a full scan in Win 7 using Avira latest version and after that I was not able to see my second hard disk while booting from Win Xp. Not able to see the secondary HDD in device manager & device management and also in my computer also. Please assist me in resolving this issue...

As usual, a "free antivirus" download has screwed up your operating system...
Delete Avira, use system restore to set your hard drive back to the time before Avira corrupted your system
Then install real security software, recommend Panda internet security...
And don't load anymore trash into your system.
(hope avira WILL delete???) Good luck with removing that garbage.
When somebody tells you to download something that's "free" think twice, or continue suffering.

Avira doesn't delete boot files. Stop spewing garbage.

Check this link to see how to rebuild your BCD and use the fixboot command to repair your boot files.

Do you suppose Panda pays him to push their product?

Aford--Is this connected to the order in which the OS's were installed? Here's the reference:

Nicola, there's a forum, techsupportguy.com, that specializes in malware removal. I think you would be of great benefit to them. They even give you a badge to wear if you're an expert.

The OP said the dual boot was working at one point, so I'm inclined to believe him/her. I won't claim to know exactly why it isn't dual booting now, because I wasn't there. However, I've used Avira for a while now, and I've never had a problem with it. I haven't even had a single false positive.

As has been said, your AV hasn't caused this unless it was in removing something else that had. It's important, therefore, to scan both systems again to make sure the utility doesn't find anythign else.

So both systems are working if you choose the relevant option you see at boottime? Does W7's Device Manager show two hard disks? In XP, Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management, can you see both disks present?

Can you see the file bcdedit in W7 as a Notepad document? Don't make any changes in it - please only confirm you can open it.
