I just don't get it, I had a ocz gamexstream 700w and the fan was very noisy and always at full speed so I'm thinking: My power supply isn't strong enough for my new build!. I just received a 1000w Ultra x3 and guess what, the fan is spinning at full speed too making it a lot noisier than I had expected since I read a lot of review about this PSU saying it was "silent".

Am I missing something? Is there a way to reduce the fan speed of the psu since I have a normal rig (no sli and no overclocking) Thanks!

Best way to get a guaranteed quiet ps is to buy one with a switch or knob adjustment for rpms. Are you sure all the noise is from the ps? I would shut off all fans one by one until you only have the cpu fan going. You may be surprised where the most noise is coming from. I recently replaced a video card fan with a fanless heatsink. Those little fans make more noise that the larger ones. You can replace the fan in the power supply, but it will void your warranty, and you could get a nasty shock in the process. Ps are normally not servicable by your average Joe. I would be afraid of getting fried. There's a procedure for getting rid of all the stored up voltage in the capacitors. If you want to take it apart, be sure you get the steps from a reputable source first.

 Thanks fo the reply,

This is my psu making all this noise, All my fans are very quiet and I can't hear any of them. I already tried with my ocz psu to change the fan and my pc was silent. The only problem was that it definitely missed ventilation because I began to experience power failure while gaming so my guess was that it was running too hot and the heat protection shut it off.

Is there a way to plug all those fans so they won't draw so much power? Now they're all plugged into molex. I mean I don't have so much hardware for this 1000w psu:

6 120mm fans
1 8800gtx
3 sata hdd
2 dvd drive (1 molex, 1 sata)

On a side question, is there a way to monitor hdd activity and wich program is using them. Right now I don't have any program running but my hdd are always reading and it annoys me...

 Thanks

Sorry to hear that you wasted you money on that Ultra PSU.
I buy the PCPower line of silencer PSU's, and have had great luck with them.
