Building a gaming rig so bad ass it could pop the masking tape off a nerds glasses!
Just ordered the meat and potatoes. Next I'll be getting all the little extra bells and whistles and I'm wondering what is the best hard drive configuration for my Vista setup
Going to be running Vista Home Premium 64-bit w/ SP1. I was thinking about setting up the system in one of a couple different ways.
(All drives are SATA/2 @ 7200RPM & 3.0 GHz/Sec)
Drive 0 - 320 Gb WD Caviar - Install Windows and it's drivers here.
Drive 1 - 320 Gb WD Caviar - Just the windows Page File will go here.
Drive 2 and 3 - Twin 640 GB WD Caviar - Raid 0 setup for program installations.
----------
Or Maybe...
----------
Drive 0 & 1 - Twin 320 Gb WD Caviar - Raid 0 setup for Windows, it's Drivers, and the page file
Drive 2 & 3 - Twin 640 Gb WD Caviar - Raid 0 setup for Program installations.
----------
What is the best way to set up this computers hard drives? I'm looking for SPEED, not reliability, I format every 4 - 6 months anyway.
I'll have a large ATA/100 IDE Hard Drive to back up anything that would be annoying to loose. (Pics, Work Files, MP3's, etc)

If I run with 8 Gigs of DDR2 PC 6400, will I need a Page file? Don't know if it would work properly but it sure would be nice to just turn Windows Virtual memory completely off! Is 8 Gigs enough to do that and still play games without crashes?
