To start off I have an emachines T6212 with a motherboard socket 939.

I went to new egg and bought this new processor

It is a socket 939 so it should be compatible with my computer, am I right?

I am wondering if I will need to buy a completely new heatsink and fan for my new processor, or can I use my existing heatsink and fan?

Whelp, its really hard to say.

T6212 Support Information

I don't see any bios downloads from there, but there is a chance you will need an update for it.

Not sure, but this is prolly the MB in that system:

RX480M2

It might be best to contact them for more info. You could try to figure it out on your own with CPU-Z to get MB chipset/bios info that you would definitely need to figure out.

If your motherboard does support the processor, you won't need a new heatsink and fan, just make sure you clean and reapply the thermal grease.

where can I purchase thermal grease? can I buy it at a local best buy or do i need to order it online?

You can get it from best buy, or I think even radio shack stores.
