I am trying to fix an old IBM 2138-E76 computer for a friend who does not want to upgrade
Problem:
His video does not display correctly (ie not readable at all seems scrambled) I have installed a PCI video card but i cannot make it switch to the new card from the on board video adapter. If I could see I would adjust this in the bios but like i said... i can't see. :pfff:

Any ideas on how to fix this.

Look for a cmos jumper on the motherboard; you can move the jumper over one position, and return to original position (with system turned off), or remove the board battery for a few seconds. Either will reset the bios to the default settings. You can also try a lower resolution setting, changing it in safe mode.

I've done that and there is no change. I was able to boot into windows and install the drivers for the new card but was not able to get it to switch over to the new card. It was rather hard because the screen was very hard to read. (i checked the monitor already to see if that was the problem but it did the same thing on every monitor)

thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks for the link. I tried it but I am not able to see in windows enough to be able to do this. Sorry! Thanks anyway. I think that I could fix it if i could get into the bios and turn off the on board video but unless some one could guide me blindly, I don't think that it's possible. If anyone has any other ideas, i would love to know.
