Hello everyone,

I'm working on a new build and need some advice. This is what I've got so far:

COOLER MASTER Mystique RC-632S-KKN1-GP Black Aluminum http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811119129

Foxconn P35A LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813186119

XFX PVT80GGHD4 GeForce 8800GTS XXX 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814150173

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115028

Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB(4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820220267

Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822136012

Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16832116202

All said and done, just ovre $1100 at newegg.com after rebates. I haven't seen if I can find better prices at other places. I'm not 100% sold on the motherboard so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Also, I'm not an overclocker so if you can give me some advice on a power supply, I would greatly appreciate it. Last but certainly not least, do you all think that the stock fans would be okay or are there some aftermarket products that would be better.

Thanks,

Hello,

-I like the P35 DS3L mobo.
-Why the 8800GTS 320MB? The 8800GT 512MB came out and outpreforms your card for about the same price.
-You may want to think about the Q6600 processor as they are the same price. It really depends on what you will be doing with your computer.
-I would personally go with a 7.2K RPM larger HDD, but if you like the faster speeds and less space, good for you.
-A 32bit OS won't be able to use the full 4GB of ram. In this case, I would either stick to 2GB of ram, or go with Vista 64Bit.

Stock fans would probably be fine, especially since you are not OCing. I'm not going to lie, I didn't really check out the case -- since my mouse if broken -- so it may or may not have adequate airflow.

On the PSU note, I would see if someone could post a link, or you could find one, to the tiered PSU listings. You would want to get one from tier 3 or better. I wuold also suggest something around 550W of power.

Hope I helped,
-Adam

Here is a tiered psu listing: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108088 I don't know if the PC-P&C silencer is in tier 1 or 2, but at $119,99, it's a fine choice.

I like 4gb, at current prices, it's a good idea. XP will see 3.3gb, but that is still much better than 2gb. Vista-64 is not a problem for a new build.

In the same price range, the 8800GT is a much better buy, assuming you can find one at an uninflated price.

I recommend a Corsair PSU. The HX520w has been excellent for me, and I'm pretty sure its tier2....not sure why it isn't tier 1 though.
