The cable box supplied by my cable company uses component out for HDTV.
A component to VGA connector came with the TV so the cable company
use it to set up my system.
My HD-TV requires HDMI for PIP.
Is there a way of going from component to HDMI?

Not cheaply.

Component is analog, and HDMI/DVI is digital. You need a fast A/D
converter (essentially a digital capture card). The cheapest I have seen
is about $2000.

Looking at the back of the box I se it also has DVI-D out.
Any recommendations for a source of DVI-D to HDMI cables.
I see prices on the net of $25 to $125 for such a cable.

Well, don't go for the $125 cable, since it's digital, and as long as you
get any picture, it will be perfect.

Try http://www.pricewatch.com and use the following search:

dvi hdmi cable

There are 2 meter cables like you need for $20 or so.

Jeff,
According to the set-up menu on my DTC component and DVI-D are both 1080i.
They show it as DVI/YPbPr Output --- 1080i.

Before you get a DVI-D to HDMI cable, check with your cable company as
to whether the DVI port is active or not. I have a Scientific Atlanta
8000HD DVR which has a DVI port on the back, but my local cable company
has not activated the DVI ports on their STBs (Set Top Box). Don't know
why, maybe they don't want to deal with the calls about how DVI dropouts
due to HDCP sync problems.

If you do get a DVI-D to HDMI cable, don't get Monster cable. This is
a digital cable and Monster cables are possibly the most overpriced
accessories on the planet.

I use the component outputs for my DCT6412 DVR to my 55511. Looks no
different to me from my OTA that goes to the internal ATSC tuner when vying
the same programs (via switching inputs).

Just IMO, not trying to start one of those analog/digital quality
discussions.........

that come with it are: BPI Broadband Products Ultimate Component Patch
Cords that are gold clad (five cables - red-blue-green video and white
and red audio outs) Would I be better off with digital cables? In my
case I would need a DVI-D out to HDMI in on one TV and a DVI-D out to
DVI in on the other. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance Jim
