I was just playing oblivion on my PC, when all of the sudden; the computer crashed. I assumed that the power had just dropped because my lights dimmed and then went on all the way again. But when I pressed the power button, nothing. Nothing at all. I have tried clearing the bios and unplugging and replugging everything, but nothing works. Here are my specs:

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ socket 939 @ 2.7Ghz (Toledo core)
OCZ 2x1Gb PC3200 Platinum 400Mhz 2-3-2-5 (was running @ 2.5-3-3-6)
Sapphire ATi Radeon X1800XT 256Mb PCI-E x16
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
WD 120Gb SATA Harddrive (not sure which model)
WD 40Gb ATA Hardrive (also not sure which model)
Airlink 101 AWHL4030 Wireless Network Adapter
Scythe SCNJ-1100P (CPU cooler w/ 120mm fan)
Antec Truepower Trio 650w PSU

I just bought the processor about 3 or 4 weeks ago from newegg. It was stable for 24 hrs on Prime95 at 2.7Ghz with minimal voltage bump (1.35 to 1.3625v)
When the PSU is plugged into the motherboard, the green LED lights up; showing that power is going to the PC. But when I press the power button, absolutely nothing happens. I have no idea what is wrong...any thoughts?

I would also like to mention that Temps of the CPU under full load never hit above 54c. And the PSU has not shown any signs of failing to this point. So that was my first random power-off...
Oh yeah, I only have 3 days left to RMA the processor with newegg, so if the processor is bad, I need a way of finding out ASAP.

my friend it sounds like your powersupply is fried!!! The worst part is you wont know the extent of the damage till you can test the rest of the parts.

If PSU is fried, why does the little green light on the board come on when the PSU is plugged in? I will get another PSU tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the help. Anyone else have an ideas?

Little green light comes off one of the lower voltages.
Everything that goes whir click and buzz comes off 12 volts.
Time for a new PSU, buy a good one, don't be cheap.

your powersupply should still be under warranty. I would check that first. The PS you had was a pretty good PS could have just been a fluke. If it happens again I would abandon ship and try a differnt PS

Unfortunate for me, I opened it up to clean it's fan 3 months back...I figured I wouldn't have to worry about the warranty because it is (or was) a pretty good PSU. So the sticker is broken; no more warranty :(

Now get a good UPS and avoid this pain in the future....
