Help me pick a PSU. Best PSU for under 100?

Hey guys, i need some pro help.

I'm on a tight budget for this next comp and I
will build as soon as the new 45nm chips are launched....

first time building and i've picked everything out except the PSU...
and i was wondering what is the best PSU i can get for around 100???
I've checked the tier listing and did some price checks, but prices vary so much within tiers
and i'm really confused about the wattage and i don't want to buy something i wont really need.

I'd prefer to spend around $75, but will go up to $100.

Comp specs look like this:

Q9450 or (Q6600 at worse)
2-4Gigs of ram
8800GT or 38xx (or close)
GA-P35-DSR3

So all help right now would be appreciated! Thanks!

  1. the corsair 450VX is nice...and would easily power your system.
  2. The very last thing you want to be cheap on is the PSU, get this it will make you happy.
Also check the specs, find out what the specs mean. Then compare this to what even you look at.

  3. Here you go,

    PC Power & Cooling Silencer 470 - $74.99

470 watts is plenty for Q6600 and 8800gt for example, which draws only 277 watts under load, overclocked to 3.0, as per,

    The amps are weak.

$67 shipped. Never buy a PSU from newegg, they always overcharge and never have free shipping on the good ones.

  7. I don't know much about power supplies, but I was looking at this one for a very similar build

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371007

If that PSU is good enough to power a
Q6600, 8800GT, GA-P35-DS3L, 2 gigs of 800mhz ram, a single OD and a single HDD I will be able to buy the Q6600, if it's not enough I'll have to step down to a E6750 so i can get a Corsair620HX

Also I plan on getting an Antec 900, do you guys think that Antec PSU will be able to handle all these and all the fans?

    Any comments on this?
  8. That Antec PSU would work fine.
