I just prepared a list of parts I want to order from newegg in the next couple of weeks. If you see any problems, compatibility issues or have other suggestions please feel free to share. I couldn't decide on what memory, DVD Burner and Hard Drive I should get, so please help me with those too. Thinking of getting 32-bit Vista.
Here is the list:
Video Card: EVGA GeForce 8800GT SSC 512MB (Thinking of getting another of these to make SLI in the future, but not now)
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz (to be overclocked to 3.0-3.4GHz)
CPU Cooler: Zalman 9700 - full copper Hard Drive: Not sure, 320gb enough. Something relaible and fast? Suggestions? (Should I get 2 and Raid 0...I don't know how though, is it easy?)
Motherboard: EVGA 680i A1 SLI
Memory: Don't know. Want something good but not so expensive. 2GB (1gb x 2) is enough (or is it?). Suggestions?
LCD Monitor: Samsung 226BW 22" 2ms
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W (will this be enough after I get the second VGA and go SLI?)
Case: Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 RC - ATX Full Tower (looks good but I don't know if it is good for air cooling. Have any suggestions on good but not so expensive cases that you know about? This one is made for sound isolation I think.)
CD/DVD Burner: Not sure. Something that does the job...Suggestions?
Total cost: All slightly under $2000
Thank you...

CPU COOLER:Get Thermalright ultra , TuniqTower, ThermalTake Bigtyphoon instead
HDD:Get seagate barracuad, they are pretty good drives
Motherboard:very good
RAM:Get a DDR2 800 RAM with 4-4-4-x timings or lower, 2x1gb is enough, but if u have the money, then go with 4GB (more memory is better ) but as i said, 2x1gb is enough
LCD MONITOR :very good
PowerSupplyC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W is an awesome PSU, and is enough for 2 8800GTs and a nice OC for Q6600
Why not Zalman cooling though? I heard such good things about it...I will look at thermalright now, it also has some quite good reviews on the net.
Can you guys suggest a good 2gb (2 x 1gb) memory pack for me please. I really don't understand much about ram and there are quite a a lot to get lost in. I want something cheap but good quality, wont pay more than $150 i guess for 2gb. Also they should go well with my mobo of course...
I'm also going with the SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+R for an optic drive.
Thanks for the suggestions btw, really helpful...
Still looking at HDs...so what do you think about going Raid 0 guys??

Ok for the HD im thinking of getting a Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 250gb (or two depending on if I want to go Raid 0 or not...really need feedback on this)
they are cheaper than I expected too!
still not sure about the memory tho, would I need somthing faster than a ddr2 800 to overclock my quad?

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250gb 7200rpm
Motherboard: EVGA 680i A1 SLI
Memory: Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800
LCD Monitor: Samsung 226BW 22" 2ms
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W Quad
Case: Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 - ATX Full Tower
CD/DVD Burner: SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+RW
Total: $1750 (newegg prices)
--------
I got rid of the cpu cooler for now, will get that later. Have limited amount of money at the moment and will spend that money on mouse and keyboard and maybe 2 speakers atm.
Don't really want to get into Raid 0 atm, maybe later if I want to format my PC I'll buy another HD and do it.
In the future tough I will OC the q6600 to 3.2-3.4Ghz, get 2gb more ram (make it 4gb in total) and get another evga 8800 GT SSC and go for SLI.
What do you think???

By the way guys should I wait for the 780i mobos before I go and buy a 680i? the 780i will have pcie2.0 and that will be a major improvement on the whole build imo. what do you think?
oh and I don't know when the new nvidia mobos are coming out, I will only wait if they are comming out soon, as in this month...

well yeah I checked some benchmarks on the new 780i boards (trial ones) and there is nothing special about them. The only additions are the x3 PCI slots which I wont use and pcie2.0 which no graphics card utilize efficiently at the moment. Don't think there will be a big change on the performance with the new 780is.
The timings of the HyperX RAM is 4-4-4-12...cheap and decent I believe..
