here is a fun one, I dont know how many people knew, but the VIDs from the factory range greatly! 1.3250 is the Maximum VID for a q6600. That way they all stay within the 1.500 volt range of standard operation. HOWEVER... the VIDs get really low! As low as 1.1125 for g0, and 1.1625 for B3's.
My B3 is a 1.3125, which is the third highest VIDs of all q6600s, but my g0 is a 1.2625, which is like 6 steps lower than the worse one. Now to get the VID, you need core temp 0.96.1. You also need to put everything back on auto, with the processor options disabled that effect speed. Speed step, c1e, and such. Then it should be your Factory VID.
So people have problems with Core temp variating the VID when OC'd. Mine dont, its always the same, but others have. So you need it at auto voltages and speeds.
Now intel said via a phone call that the VID is set if it passes their rigorous testing at a low voltage. Some pass low, some dont. But all of em are still in the same range. The high VID ones are fine at 2.4 ghz and their own voltages. When I asked if there was a way to check the VID from the box, they said nope! So its a crap shoot as far as that goes!
But think of it this way. I have a 1.2625 g0, but if it was, say, 1.2000. Thats a lot of Voltage notches I wouldnt need to reach 3.6!! So that alone should mean that heat is down! At the least... but I wish to know if the lower VID ones OC better and higher and colder, due to the less voltage needs.
Back to the reason I am posting this.. if you OC and have a low VID processor, I am interested in you test results and current values at whatever speeds, if even at 2.4! Just be sure to disable all speed junk so it cant appear to be a low one!
I myself shall be looking for a lower VID one as well to pit against my other two q6600s. B3 or g0 wont matter, because I have one of each to put it up against, and I myself will be on the look out for a low one!
