ok, have a scanner. its USB2 my computer is USB1
shouldnt it be backwards compatible? if not, do they usualy make older drivers for things likes this?

Yes all USB2 devices should be backwards compatible. You can buy the cable with USB2.0 to USB1 on each end. depending on what operating system you are using the drivers are usually included on the installation CD. If your scanner is newer than the o/s they may not be there and should be on the software included with the scanner, a visit to the manufactures web site and/or Microsoft update will usually find the latest driver suitable for your equipment.
