Yes, so long as you have an ATSC digital tuner, local stations that
are broadcasting digitally & in HD, and are able to pick up those
stations at their current power levels. The number of network stations
that broadcast digital and HD have been increasing, but in many smaller
markets, the stations have only upgraded to simultaneous digital
broadcast (to their analog channel) but not HD. Most stations are not
yet broadcasting digitally at full power to save money, so the reception
area for the digital station may be smaller than for the analog.

Go to www.antennaweb.org, enter your zip code or your address and see
what you should be able to pick up over the air.

If you have an Dish HD set top box, I assume it has an ATSC tuner
built in. But I am not all that up on what Dish offers.

I had a Dish 811 HD receiver for a year. I put a Terk 55 antenna in my attic
(I should have put it outside the house under the edge of the roof, but
anyhow...the 811 had a good functioning HD off-the-air receiver and blends
the channels into its lineup. It was so useful because Dish does not have
our local channels. Reception was very good. But you won't get program info
like you do other programs coming on Dish.

I get the DISH locals but prior to getting them I was using an antenna. I
would love to get local HDTV. Going through DISH would be very expensive and
I'd only receive 8-12 channels.

Thanks

You can buy a stand-alone ATSC tuner such as the Samsung SIR-T451
which runs $250 list. LG sells one as well, but I believe their main
model is bundled with a DVD recorder and runs $400 or so.
