All,

Have any of you tried playing Crysis with an overclocked 8800GT? I have tried it but it seems whenever I OC my card Crysis crashes. When I remove the OC crysis plays fine. Anyone else have this issue and maybe figured out how to fix it? My specs are below.

I had the same problem with my 8800GTS, whenever I clocked it at 650/1620/950 it would freeze within seconds or minutes. I corrected this by dropping down my clocks a notch to 621/1566/936 (just one step down)

your overheating your card, you need better cooling

I overclocked my 8800GTX to 651MHz core/Shader 1525MHz/memory 1006MHz and this pushed my fps from 57-66fps on average on Crysis. I was suprised that my G80 was able to OC as high as it did, at 663MHz core computer locked up on me. Those G92's are very picky about running cool, the stock cooler is in my opinion lousey.

I have an stock XFX 8800GT 600/1500/900 that I have overclocked to 700/1700/1000, but I took the stock cooler off and have a Zalman VF1000 with 15 additional copper ramsinks and play Crysis SP and MP with zero issues getting between 40-75 fps and the card runs at 38-39 celcius idle to 47-49 under full load, installing the cooler dropped my temps 12 degrees !

I initially thought that it could have been overheating, but when I ran the oc in 3dmark06, I did not get any lockups. Actually it happened in Oblivion last night too. I have seen some of the aftermarket coolers poping up on peoples 8800gt's. I might have to get me one.

Great idea, running cooler never hurt anything.

3dmark06 isn't very good test for stability!! To see if it actually works at all yes, for general use its not recommended!!

If you had tested it properly it wouldn't have crashed in crysis, you need to stress test your GPU a lot before you stick to some clocks so you know it wont crash.

I started playing around when crysis came out, and soon found my 7800gtx's in sli only ran suitably in my chosen res (1280x800) 40" lcd in living room, at medium, 40fps......

So i bought a pair of 8800GTs at stock clock speeds, Sli'd them and clocked both with std cooling at 650x1700x1900.... Asus crosshair and amd 6000+ x2 @ 3.33x 2 that got me 10000 3dmarks.....

So i traded up from athlon 6000+ to striker extreme and q6600...

three words F*** Me Backwards!!!

I got 13k immediately... Then started crashing when upping speeds.. removed one card, added zalman water block, clocked q6600 to 3.45 with XMS2 corsair 2gb, and surprise surprise @ 8800 GT (single) running 790x1800x1940 i got 3dm06 16100 on my first run... I added ram sinks on every mosfet and mem chip on the card and its stable as hell!!

on my second run i got 13k.... checked rail voltages and found my 550watt psu is dropping volts and crashing me!!!

got a 700watt antec on way, will pencil mod my 8800gt and fully expect to clock 800mhz on GPU easily!!!!!!

will post again when i know more, but i am in amazement a 6600 overcloked moderately, and one 8800, one hdd, can max a 550 watt psu!!!

P.S. i loved my crosshair m/b so much i tried AMD's phenom (or phee non!) 9600, in order to save upgrading, locked multipliers mean you cant overclock it, what a piece of crap, its now back on ebay :D

Intel quads have it sorted, cant wait for the dual xeon quad (v8) setup to become affordable....

Also, got some water cooled OCZ 1150mhz stuff on ebay, surplus to requirements, item no - 290199403226

By the way, single card at same settings, 16k 3dmark 06...... on my old psu.. mwah ha ha ha haaa..... cant get clocks any higher, but i suspect thats a lack of voltage and nothing else!!

Lol, no offence but you actually thought that it could have been overheating? So, if I understand you the right way, your way of working is like this. You first overclock and then you go and test benchmarks to see if your GPU is getting too hot and crash or will be destroyed after it? Let me warn you...this is not the way an overclocker works. When you overclock the temperature is the most important factor here...not the programs that crash cause you might get unlucky and programs won't crash anymore and your screen will stay black whatever you do. You think you will get your card replaced? I think you can say bye bye to your money unless the store you bought it is full of noobs. Hope this will help you save your Gcard.

Just an update, with 750W power supply, running 810mhz x 1800 shader x 2040 ram, at a stable 42degrees gpu temp, 3.54GHZ Q6600, 62degrees CPU... Now getting 16800... And thanks for the advice guys, if the card blows my supplier will be very understanding as i spend over 20k a month with them anyway ;-) Trying pencil mod and will update laters with 3dmark graphs.... :-D

Did you do a volt mod to get the clocks so high?
