I'm buying QX9650 this week,
can anybody suggest what motherboard I should get?

In my case, I have to build a system ASAP (can't wait anylonger),
what is the best investment?

My current plan:
<motherboard:>
-get cheap P35 now
-later upgrade to new nforce7
<memory>
-get DDR3 (since DDR2 no longer supported in nforce7?)
<graphics>
-stick with my old 8800gtx (while waiting for geforce9)
-or get another 8800gtx for sli ?

Stick with the 8800GTX you've got for now. Get a mobo that is compatible with DDR2 and DDR3? DDR3 is really expensive at the moment.

I just instaled two QX9650s in two of my customers machines. One had a EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 board and the 2nd guy had a Striker Extreme like myself. After updateing to the lastest bios both board with the QX9650s ran great.As far as your vidio card question goes, thats really your chioce.If you can afford to buy another 8800GTX then go for it,but seeing as the 9000 series will be ouit between late Jan to Feb it might be worth while waiting.But look at it this way,if you do buy a EVGA 8800GTX,you can use their stepup program to upgrade to a 9000series card. They give you back exactly what you paid for it minus shipping,so you get to run SLI now for free and then use the 8800GTX for your step up. You win that way.

If you look around you can get DDR2 for cheap... and I mean cheap! New egg has 4gb (2gb x2) for 79.99, fry's (outpost.com) has 4gb (2gb x2) for $89.99 and $109.99 (with $30 mail in rebate), and there are other good deals out right now.

I thought nforce680 doesn't support penryn, so does SLI mode work too?
EVGA deal sounds great too !

Seemed to me that if he can pay 1195USD only for a cpu he wouldn't mind getting a DDR3 memory. So I say go for it but be careful about the motherboard. Getting one beyond 1333ghz seems pointless at the moment.

Here's a detailed review :
