My components: P5E-WS, Q6600-G0, 2x2GB OCZ, eVGA 8800GTS-512MB, WD-750GB, P182, 2 x DVD-Writer. All SATA devices. I installed an extra 120mm fan in the front middle cage. All 4 fans set to low.

I just replaced the Freezer Pro 7 by a Zalman 9700NT yesterday.

Monitoring software: CPUID, CoreTemp, Prime95.

CPU: 2.4GHz @ 28.8 GHz, CPU voltage (CPUID): Idle: 1.192V, Load (Prime95): 1.16V

Core temperatures with Freezer Pro 7:
Idle: 38-40C
Load: 58-60C (after 3 hours of Prime95)

Core temperature wuith 9700NT:
Idle: 36-38C
Load:53-55C (after 6 hours of Prime95)

By changing the HSF, I was hoping to get more improvement than 5C in load conditions. Maybe the Zalman thermal grease has to be burned in!

5C is a nice gain, but in reality you should have just stuck with the Freezer Pro 7 unless you were maybe hitting near 70C under load. BTW nice OC, 26.4Ghz OC SWEET LoL.

Yes, you're right. I was supposed to type 2.88 Ghz.....

The reason I went with the 9700NT because someone bought my Freezer Pro 7 with full retail price !!!

Also, the way the 9700NT fan is mounted, it blows air to the motherboard as well. This should improve the air flow inside the case and cool other components.

I hope my temps will improve in a few days. I am looking for 10C improvement.

I would try re-installing your freezer pro 7 and see if it makes a difference. I have a similar setup and use the AC Freezer Pro 7, and I have much lower temperatures even with a higher overclock and higher voltage:

GA-P35-DS4
Q6600 (G0)
AC Freezer Pro 7

Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz (9x356) @ 1.25v (bios)
Idle: 28-30C
Load (prime95): 48-50C
Ambient/room: 20C

@Ischmidt: Those are really nice temps. What is your ambient temps and did you lap the cpu and/or heatsink?

To OP: The 9700NT isn't that much greater than the Arctic Freezer Pro 7. I would only expect 4C improvement, so you should be happy with a 5C decrease in temps.

Ambient temperature is usually 20C, and no I haven't lapped the cpu or heatsink. I'm thinking that lapping it won't do much, because if I run 2.4 Ghz and stock voltage (1.275v, higher than I use for my overclock) - temperatures at idle are 22-24, which isn't much warmer than the ambient temperature. I must have gotten lucky that the heatstink and cpu seem to have really good contact.

What PC case are you using? To achieve such amazing temps, you must have very good air flow in your case.

With the 9700NT, my idle temps are 37-38-37-37. When running Prime95, the temps range from 50-50-49-49 to 55-55-54-54. So, replacing the Freezer Pro 7 to a 9700NT actually helps the load temps by 5-10C, does not improve much in the idle temps. My ambient temp is 22C.

I'm using an Antec Nine Hundred case so that does help...3x120mm fans blowing in, 1x120mm fan blowing out, 1x200mm fan blowing out.

PS I just checked the temps right now, and it's 26/25/24/27 at idle (3.2 Ghz, 1.25 vcore in bios). Ambient is still 20C.

Yes, I did consider both models, 900 and P182 from Antec. I decided on the P182 because it has a lower noise level.

I just turned on my PC and browsed the net for 30 minutes, ambient is 22C and my core temps are 34-35-34-34C.

I should get better temps is I set the fans to mid/high but I prefer to keep the PC quiet. I did notice that if I leave the front door open, the idle temps will drop to 32-33-32-32C.

Actually, there has been comparison tests done. With no curing time, the Zalman paste is better.
