Hey guys I am looking to build a system I can live with for the next 4 yrs. LOL I know good luck on this. I am kinda stuck on the case to use. The cases I want are all full towers but wont work with my current desk. I would need midtower max.
CPU Intel QX9650
Motherboard X38 Asus P5E3 Deluxe or better suggestion (think should wait for X48's?)
2 8800 GTX
Vista Home Ultimate OS (since I am going for long haul)
Creative X-Fi Soundcard
2 Gig DDR3 (might go 4 if needed)
Raptor for main drive
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD7500AAKS storage
Samsung DVD Burner
Case????? Need midtower, but may have to go full tower.
Oh I would like monitor suggestions. Flatscreen 20-22inch. Thanks again.

I would stick with DDR2, and definitely 4GB. The prices on DDR3 are not justified IMO, with performance so close to DDR2. Also, no X38 motherboard will support SLI, i.e. your two 8800GTX cards. Get an Asus P5N32-E 680i SLI.
Ditch the X-Fi, it won't work well with Vista. Get an Auzentech or HT Omega instead.
Ditch the Raptor, get a second WD75000AAKS instead, it's just as fast and 5 times bigger, same price.
Case: Antec 900, TJ09. I think full-tower would be very good here, it helps with cooling.
Monitor: Samsung 216BW, 226BW. Why get 8800GTX SLI for such a monitor though. You don't need that much vidoe power unles syou use 1920x1200 or more IMO.
Edit: PSU: Silencer 750W Quad or Toughpower 850W.

Thanks for the tips. I just read Anand techs preview of the X48 and that was a let down. Does anyone think the 780i motherboards might be better or more of the 680i same? Didnt know that about X-fi either thanks for that tip as well. Any others I would still appreciate. I hate to say but I may try and wait longer to upgrade as the hardware coming out seems very lackluster to me. What do you guys think???
From what I've read, the 780i is a minor upgrade to 680i. Not just wiki, but some other forums. The best, IMO, is P35 & 680i. Proven. Mature. Tons of choices. They're available.
