I have a Motorola 6200 cable box connected to a Philips HDTV.
The HD analog setup is component to VGA, HD digital is DVI-D to HDMI.
Audio works on everything but the digital HD setup.
The VGA and HDMI share R/L audio inputs. When I select HD-A the sound is
normal.
however when I switch to HD-D I get video only.
Audio works OK using the RF/SVHS and DVD/CVI inputs.
Does someone know if this is a TV problem or cable box problem.

Sounds like normal operation. HDMI supports digital audio through its
connector and cable, but DVI (any flavor) does not. So when you
convert DVI-D to HDMI there's no audio there. I presume HD-A means to
get analog audio over separate cables, and HD-D means to use digital
audio from the HDMI connection or possibly a separate digital audio
input.
If the cable box and HDTV have separate, compatible digital audio
connections, try that way. There may also be an adaptor to insert
digital audio into an HDMI cable; I haven't looked (I deal with audio
separately anyway).

Not familiar with that cable box, but if it has an optical or coax digital
output and you are using a receiver with speaker setup for your audio, try
running the digital out from the cable box directly into one of the inputs
in your receiver. If you are using the TV's speakers and the TV has a
digital input, try running from the cable box digital output into the TV
set's digital input. (If one is coax and the other optical, you can buy a
converter online for $20 or so.)
I have an HDMI cable between an SA 8300HD DVR cable box and my Sony HDTV but
don't use the audio portion of it. I set the cable box setting to "5.1
digital audio", not "HDMI" and run digital audio directly from cable box
into receiver.
