Have the Motorola 6412 DVR. I am at 90% full. Manual says it will
stop recording when full. It also says that it will erase old programs
to make way for new. Which is it?

1. Will it erase old programs and continue recording a new program
when full.

2. Will it stop recording when full

or

3. Will it stop recording the present new program, erase an old
program and record the NEXT new program.

Seems like an easy thing to explain, but the manuals and references are
ambiguous.

Can't speak for Motorola units, but my Scientific Atlanta DVR has
a function that can automatically erase one or more programs to make
room for new stuff. However, the DVR allows this feature to be turned off.
If the feature is disabled, the DVR will not record anything that
would put it over its capacity. I don't know exactly what happens
if the feature *isn't* turned off because *I* want to be the one
who decides what,if anything,is erased from the HD.

Although I'm not sure,my guess is that your unit has the same capabilities.

It will record over the oldest shows. You notice that the list of recorded
shows goes from top to bottom. The bottom ones will be over written first.
There is an option to keep a show longer by moving it up the list.

You can also change the priority of a recorded show. Set to delete
when "I delete" (not to, "when space is needed" ) and it will not purge
that show. If you had all programs marked to not delete, and you ran
out of drive space, it would stop recording.

Always remember too, when adding a "series recording", be sure to then
go into the recording priority list, and place your new program in the
appropriate ranking, and "confirm" this change.
