7300 GT Upgrade Recommendations??

What I currently have: GIGABYTE GV-NX73T256P-RH GeForce 7300GT 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card

How much of an improvement would I see going to either of these (or others?)? Are any of them worth an upgrade?

PC Club Deals for tomorrow (Fri 11/23):
$40 MSI 8400 GS 256 MB
$75 MSI 8500 GT 512 MB
$75 EVGA 8600 GT 256 MB

Hmm, interesting. Didn't think those were so bad heh.

What about 7900 GS, the numbering is confusing me. Is the 7900 GS > 8600 GT?

(If so, how much better? Worth the extra cost?)

8600 GT is the only one of those 3 cards that's better than your 7300 GT... and not by leaps and bounds.

I wouldn't upgrade to anything less than an 7900GS/X1950 PRO or Radeon 3850 from a 7300 GT.


Yes, the 7900 GS slaughters the 8600 GT. The 7900 GS is about as good as the 8600 GTS.

The Radeon 3850 is much better than both though, almost as good as the 8800 GTS 320MB... and for $180 (once stock starts replenishing. )

That's because it's pretty new.... and because of a typo. I meant 3850.

Post thanksgiving? Might be a good chance, a bunch of cards have sold already and they're probably going to replenish them continually. Keep checking Newegg.com.
