I built a budget build for a friend with a E2160 cpu, 1 gig of Wintec ddr 2 800, and a Biostar P4M890 M7 motherboard. Works better than expected. Accept, I wanted to overclock it to around 2.5 to 2.8 ghz.  Around that area.  My bios has a cpu booster section for overclocking.

OC:
stock 200*9 = 1800
if i rase fsb to 300 the multiplier automaticly drops to 6
300*6 = 1800
I haven't found any way to set the multipler

I know this from cpu id

What is causing my multiplier to flucuate?

Thanks Evilonigiri and hughyhunter speed stepping was it.  My friends pc was 300*6 1800 and when i ran orthos the multiplier jumped back up to 9 making it 300*9 2700.  Easy overclock and could go further but it would be overkill for what this pc is being used for.

Can't wait till I have the time to play with the e2160 I purchased for an HTPC in my living room.  Going for 400fsb on mine with either 8x or 9x multi, though I'm not sure if it's capable of hitting the 3.6 at 9x with low enough voltage.  I have heard that these chips are cheap little screamers when pushed hard.

But, yeah as they said - speedstep.

You need 3.6GHz for an HTPC?  :heink:

I personally dont have an HTPC. But some would say that I am way overkill on my computer. I play BF2! I dont need two 8800GT's and 4.05ghz dual core!

My goal is 20k once better drivers come out for vid cards. Also I will try for maybe 4.6ghz or 511fsb. It's hard though my memory keeps failing me.
