Hey guys,
I was home for Thanksgiving this past week and installed an 8800GT during this time. Everything worked great.
Well now I've got it all back to my apartment and the sound is crackling/breaking up horribly. Does it in everything, games, windows, media player, etc.
The weird thing is that when I uninstall my video drivers, the sound is perfect. When I reinstall the latest video drivers, the crackles return!
Running Vista 64 Ultimate

EVGA 8800GT
Correct. There are issues with the 8800 series GPUs and the X-FI sound cards on VISTA.You can try going to X-FIs website to see if there is a fix for it.Or you can wait for SP1 for VISTA to come out.Or,you can un-install your X-FI card and use the onboard sound.Goodluck.

Nevermind I know there was a new driver on Nvidia's site which was released a couple days ago, I installed it last night but now all it's showing is the one from 11/6. I thought it was the final version but it must have been the Beta I installed which is dated 11/21, you might want to try that and see if it fixes your problem.

Updated my BIOS to the new F8. Didn't work.
Did a fresh reload of Vista 64. Still get the cackles.
I'm wondering why it worked for a solid week with no cackles before I took it back home.
Maybe the video card(8800GT) is defective(seeing as how uninstalling Nvidia drivers fixes the problem and the cackle persists even when using on-board sound instead of x-fi)?
*UPDATE*
It seems to be more like a stutter then a crackle. And it stutters in perfect beat over and over. Every second or so.
*UPDATE #2*
So now if I roll back to my old 7800GTX and use the exact same drivers I get PERFECT sound.
Everyone agree I should just RMA the EVGA 8800GT pronto?
