Is AM2 a different chipset to 939? I have a 939 MB running an X2 4400+, and was thinking about upgrading to a faster X2 chip. What's the fastest chip I can put in a 939 board?
AM2 is a different socket than 939. AM2 also features DDR2 instead of DDR. The fastest chip you can put in your 939 board will depend on your motherboard. What motherboard do you have? The 939 CPU's are very scarce at the moment.
AM2 is a different, but similar chipset to the 939.It has all the features of a quality 939 chipset, but has support for DDR2 instead of DDR.It also has enhanced features specific to the AM2 platform.AM2 is a specific socket designation, being a 940 pin socket.BUT,the AM2 940 socket is not compatible with the older socket 940 OPTERONS.I believe the pin out is slightly different. Not a lot.But enough to make the older opy's not work with it.The new OPTY's on the other hand have no problem what so ever.Hope that helps you some.
