Hi, has anyone tried setting up raid 0 '2' drives for use when rendering / video editing? I have never used raid before and have read that it can be unreliable by some and yet stable by others. I was wondering whether I would still be able to use my existing HDD for all my usual stuff, i.e. OS, games, music etc without starting from fresh and just add '2' extra drives in raid 0 purely for video editing /rendering purposes without affecting my existing HDD.

From what I've been read everyone seems interested in using raid for their OS or Games!.

My processor and ram have been upgraded and now it looks as though it maybe the HDD that is holding things up. Any useful advice would be greatly appreciated.

does RAID 0 actually improve gaming performance?

Im pretty sureRaid 0 will combine the speeds of both drives. Making loading times fly. So if you have 2 raptors in 0, you will be flying. Raid is good for capturing uncompressed HD as well. If you dont have raid for it, you will drop frames. I think. For what you are doing, you might have to have an OS on the RAID drives, and your editing stuff. So you will be dual booting. And your raid setup will be dedicated for video editing and nothing else. Rendering is all CPU though. The raid array will be good for capturing, not rendering. Dont listen to me though, im usually the one asking questions as well. heh

RAID 0 if you want to lose all your data. RAID 1 or 5 - anything else and your asking to lose your data.
