redo it...maybe your thermal compund is too thin or thick(I found ATI cards needed a thicker layer with there stock heatsinks...but i do not think it was so for the X850 i Zalman VF 700'd)
Yeah there was some thermal grease on the GPU memory. I tried to clean it off but it just spread even more so out of frustration I went out and bought a 8600GT for 130 bucks. I am waiting until September 08 to upgrade to a 3870 so I didn't want to spend all that much. You guys think I got good bang for my buck or could I have gotten something better? The X700 was way outdated and I could only game in CoD4 on 800x600 with low settings.
Using thermal compound? Making contact with the GPU and memory?
Sacrificing chickens?
You forgot to tell him to try the old Tap the Card with A Wrench. Might as well just try and get a new card, or simply replace the old fan with the exact same thing. Make sure you put thermal paste on the right spots.
bomb-dude is your system AGP? What happens Sept 2008? Expecting a big birthday present or something?
I got a hd2600xt-pcie for $95 including shipping and Valve's Black Box.
Prices went up so I got a 8600GT-pcie including CoH for ~$100 in the mail right now. AGP prices are higher. NewEgg rocks!
The 8600 is a christmas gift BTW (except I'm keeping CoH).
No its PCIe. And I just bought a 8800GT online for $334 shipping and taxes. I am in Canada and even though are dollar is higher our products from the states still cost more (Dunno why ) the cheapest I could find was that at ncix.com. The place I bought the 8600 accepts returns within 14 days so Im going to return it and get another HDD that I wanted. Also this is the PC im going to be giving to my wife in September and I will be building a new one with the latests and greatest.
Like I said i fubarred my other card and was desperate to get a temp replacement.
