I'm in the process of putting together a new computer. I've ordered all the parts already, except for the graphics card.
Highlights of the rig:
Q6600 with Zalman 9700
P6N Diamond
4 x 1Gb Crucial PC2-6400
2 x 150Gb Raptor
LG 24" (L245WP-BN)
Now the game I'm most interested in is Supreme Commander. Originally I was going to get a GTX, but now the GT is out and I was going to go for that.
I recently read that Nvidia is going to release a new GTS on the 3rd of December but the specs vary wildly depending on which site you read. Can anyone tell me if one GT will be enough to run Supreme Commander at the highest detail settings at 1920 x 1200, do I need 2 in SLI or is it worth waiting for the new GTS (since the GT is out of stock everywhere anyways...)?????
Either wait for the new SLI GTS to see how it performs or get SLI GTX, because I could be wrong, but I believe the SLI GT will succumb due to it's 256-bit interface.
I have a Q6600 and a 8800GTS 320mb and I can run everything on high in Supcom. This game is much more cpu and ram demanding than graphics. 4gigs is a minimum in order to play large scale battles, but remember to run it on Vista 64bit. There is this 2gig limit in XP and supcom constantly hits it (and crashes) on small maps with only 2000 units (or so). I recommend getting 8gigs, that way you can play on a 81kmx81km map with 8000units Make sure you overclock that Q6600 or else you're gonna experience slow gamplay. My 3ghz q6600 slows down in the latter part of the game where there's more units (like ~2500)

You didn't say what resolution you're playing at. On my old PC, I play Supreme Commander on an E6400 and an overclocked 7900GS. It runs absolutely fine with everything on high. However, that is at 1280 x 1024.......

And the new GTS will have a higher bandwidth. Oh wait, it wont! It still has 256bit!
That because it doesnt matter about bandiwith atm since other factors are more important. SLI'd 8800GT's will be 100% fine. If you want go for some EVGA 8800GT KO's or some other memory overclocked card if you are worried about bandwidth. There is absolutly no way SLI'ed or even single 8800GTX's are worth it even more anyone who reccomends it to you probably wouldnt ever consider buying it thereselves.
Evilonigi i what kind of 16x aa? Beacuse if you mean super sampling AA you are losing tons of FPS for no reason since it works no more effectivly then 4x SSAA w/ 4x MSAA, which is also 16z AA and gives MUCH better performance, not that any of that matters since 4x SSAA alone is fine for perfect quality image.
If you are using 16x AA though and wasting that performance its no wonder your game slows down so much at just 2500 units, for a quad and 8800gts that's nothing.

Well that's why I said I could be wrong, I wasn't too sure about that being a factor... thanks for the correction. I do remember seeing the 8800GT succumb to a 1920x1200 resolution vs 8800GTX (And I mean completely tank, not just lose by a few fps).
i played supreme commander but with lower resolution (7x12) with highest detail. never got any kind of lag. n frame rate was good (tho i didnt measure it). but it was smooth. u can c my sig for my system.

play with 8x. No aa in really noticable when i look at big scenes
well i didnt mean AA isnt noticeable in all situations but in most situations u wont see a noticeable difference, however because my monitor supports up to 1680x1050 , i cant say anything about 1920x1200 , also as u know the best
FPS/PERFORMANCE AA is 4x (if u dont use 0) and i think with 1920x1200 +4x AA , a 8800GTX will not have any difficulties(again , u have to ask someone who has played it @ 1920x1200 )

Single GTS 640mb at 1920 x 1200 all high settings plays Crysis just fine at 25 fps...Just for your reference flyingdutchman. The new GTS SSC 640mb is even better for the money if you dont want to spend $500 on a GTX...

Oh btw, if you use 8x AA you are pretty stupid, it shows no improvement over x yet takes a LOT more performance, also you don't say what kind of AA, if you mean the games, then use 4x, but its quite silly to use the in-games anyway.
