Hello!

I have some thoughts concerning the Seagate Cheetah SAS 146GB. I'm wondering about the noise level which I can experience with this drive. I can imagine that it sounds quite a bit, but how much? Is it acceptable?

In general I see that it's a fast drive and the price tag is... a bit expensive, but I can imagine that it's fast. :) Any thoughts about it despite the noise?

If you can put a SAS drive and a SAS controller in your budget yes it is worth it and the noise is really no worse than most SATA drives. I have 15k SAS, 7200 RPM SATA and SSD in my computer and its not loud at all.

What controller were you thinking of getting?

It will be noticeably louder than most drives (not objectionably so though IMO), but it is fast. If you're going to pay the premium though, make sure you're getting a recent generation cheetah (15k.6 is the newest). Those are the ones that can pull 164MB/s and have a 5-6 ms access time (3.4ms seeks + 2ms rotational latency).

My budget only allows me to spend money on s-ata drives, occasionally. I was merely curious about the noise.
