This brand new 640 GB Hard drive that was involved in the computer shutting down during windows vista installation is now making car revving sounds and displaying a red led blinking light at the front of the case...It is also blinking orange on the motherboard where the SATA cable goes in... I am not able to boot to windows, it just sits there and loads and then eventually turns off.

Is there anything I can do to save it or is this thing pretty much screwed?

PS. I don't care about backing up any files.

Thank you

This sound similar to the problem I experienced with my samsung drive.

The problem was the LINK setup. Check to make sure that your motherboard does support the link default of the drive which will probabaly be 3.0Gbps. And also check what the LINK for any other drives you have is. I resolved this issue by changing the LINK from 3.0 to 1.5 for both my drives. I have had no issues since. ANd the change in performance is too little to even contemplate.
