I am currently using the comcast provided cable modem and a belkin router i bought a best buy. I want to ditch my comcast hardware because i now realize i paid $150 in modem fees.
I am looking for peoples thoughts on a router and modem. I have a wireless laptop I use around the house with a G card, so it must be backwards compatible. I would like a router with one or two usb ports I can use for my external hard drive and printer.
I think my modem itself is holding back my upload speeds. I can hit 30,000 kbs down, and only 1500 kbs up, it seems to hit a wall, when my neighbor hits the same kbs down and double kbs up on the same service.
I play online games so low latency is important. I also transfer large files over the network/internet so I do not want it to be a bottle neck.
In terms of price, I am not cheap, but I do look for value. I'm not into paying for features I won't use. I would look for a reasonable price based on features. I imagine that 150$ for a modem isn't crazy because thats what i have into the comcast ones i suppose. the only advantage to the comcast one is that if it breaks or they change standard i get a new one.
