I just got a new Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR. I was programming the remote
to in the TV mode to do PIP with the FAV button. It worked but now the FAV
button won't do anything in the CBL mode any more - it worked perfectly
before.

I need to learn the advanced code for the FAV button for the SA 8300HD DVR.
I think if I can just program that number back in for the cable mode, the
FAV function will work again in the cable mode. Anyone know the advanced
code for that function on that remote?

Thanks! I'm hoping I don't have to return the remote to the cable c. and
start over with a new one.

If your remote is the AT8400, then look on page 14 of the remote manual for
instructions on how to set buttons back to their factory defaults.

Not sure why you would want to reset the "FAV" button this way, anyway,
since there are plenty of PIP controls at the bottom of the remote control.
I find that "FAV" is very useful. I have about 8 stations programmed as
FAVORITES and use that button to go to either a particular station or
somewhere nearer a station I want to watch. Use it all the time.

Thanks for the response. My remote is the Atlas DVR/PVR 5-Device Universal
Remote Control by Universal Electronics. Different from the one you
mentioned, so the page number you mentioned doesn't help. I looked in my
manual for a way to re-set to factory defaults, but there's nothing on that
subject. I also called my cable co. for technical support, but they couldn't
help. They have no idea of the advanced codes for picking particular
butttons to do particular functions. They suggested I return the remote and
get a new one and start over. However, just because they say that doesn't
mean it's the only solution - I find them to be surprisingly unknowledgeable
about tech issues.

I was setting the FAV button in the TV mode to do PIP becuause the buttons
at the bottom are too inconveient for a function I use so often. Plus the
FAV button is close to the arrow buttons near the top which I'd prefer to
use for PIP purposes. Any way, I've gotten that all set up perfectly in the
TV mode now. It's just that when I switch to the CBL mode and try the FAV
button now nothing happens with the FAV button in the CBL mode.

I have 10 favorites programmed in and the FAV button was working perfectly
in the CBL mode before I programmed it's function as PIP in the TV mode.
Right after doing that that button stopped working in the CBL mode. I think
what I did in the TV mode I must have overridden that function it's supposed
to perform in the CBL mode. That's strange though, because I set some other
buttons to do things in the TV mode and that didn't overrride what they were
supposed to do in the CBL mode. It's just something unique with that FAV
button maybe.

I'm sure that if I could just get the 3-digit advanced code for that FAV
button I could get it working again. That just needs to be re-programmed
back in. I agree the FAV feature is great and that's why I'm working to get
it back.

Just out of curiosity, where did you get it and how much did it cost?

It's just the one my cable co. brought after I called to sign up for one.

Thanks to all. But now I've found the number. I decided to call the remote
co. They gave me the code - it's 725. I programmed it in and it works
perfectly now.

Just out of curiosity, did the Atlas remote control for your 8300HD DVR come
with the DVR from your cable company? If so, interesting that there is more
than one remote is made and distributed for the same DVR box.

Yes. It's the remote that the cable co. supplied when they brought me the
DVR. I'm pretty happy with it so far and like the fact that it's
programmable, though the support techs seem to have little knowledge about
that aspect.
