Flash the BIOS means to install a new BIOS version than previously installed. The BIOS chip on your MB contains all the I/O software configurations to drive your hardware attached to your MB. Updating or flashing the BIOS can fix isues known to the MB Mfg. and can even provide a 'soft' update enabling your MB to employ new processors that become available. So, being able to update the BIOS allows the Mfg. to expand the capabilities of your MB without releasing a completely new MB to provide for new hardware or a fix for I/O issues that may apply.

if you fail than you are F U C K!!!nothing will boot and your motherboard is DEAD!!!all you can do is send it back to the manufacture which will take weeks if not months!!!

I flashed my BIOS on the system in my sig to the latest version five minutes ago. Totally painless. Now My MB supports the Quad 9 series 45nm Intel processors. Maybe I'll drive down to Micro Center later and pick one up and install later. If you read your MB manual, you may find your Mb is like mine. I can boot to the MB CD and recover from any bad BIOS flash experience. From right here at my keyboard.
