I have a Pentium D 640 CPU. 3.2 Ghz, it has two threads.

My question is: Is it worthwhile overclocking with a decent HSF and what results will I be able to achieve with a Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI mobo?

Any ideas?

I have 3G Ram DDR2 533Mhz. ( 2*1G + 2*512M).

I agree with the other guy, but I have seen people getting the 2.8 pentium d's and OCing em to 4.0 and such. So why not pony up on a cheaper decent cooler, and see what it can do.

As Noted by Gill, the socket is compatible with other cpu's, so it you blow it up, you can look on craigs list and get a e 6600 for 120 bucks or whatever, toss that cooler on it and get 3.6ish. The newer architecture of the core series is pretty much gonna automatically whoop the $hit out of a old pentium D. Simply because its a newer design.

Thanks people, but alas, it seems as if the mobo doesn't support any new cpu's worth paying for.

Seems like upgrading both the cpu and mobo will be required.
