So I've got a Lite-On DVD+R drive in my PC, and I'm trying to use it to play retail DVDs. However, when I put retail DVDs in the drive, it makes funny 'grinding'-type noises and Windows doesn't pick it up. The same DVDs work just fine through my laptop's DVD+R drive, however.
I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do with my PC to get it to read these retail DVDs properly, or whether I'll need to replace the drive to play them. If I need to replace it, is there a certain spec that indicates it can play retail DVDs?
What version of Windows do you have? Not all versions play movies out of the box. If you have xp or certain versions of Vista you need a Codec installed to play movies.
Oh and also - it's not really a 'grinding' sound, but more of a rapid 'click-click-click' sound... about a second of silence, then click-click-click, silence, click-click-click...
