More Information

I just bought this CPU and it has a stock HSF unlike any other of the 4 previous AMD CPU's I've owned. It has a copper base and piping with the rest being aluminum. It has Foxconn printed on the side although it came stock.

My case is pretty big with a 120mm front and back fan, and an 80mm side fan. I saw that the thermal temp. for this CPU is 120W, which is almost double my old one, so I am worried about heating issues -- I basically spent my entire state income tax return on the CPU  ... Do you think this fan would be adequate for very slight overclocking or no overclocking at all?

Also on the copper base of the HSF, I can clearly see straight lines going across it and when I removed the thermal pad off it to apply my AS5, I saw lines of the thermal pad still on there after thorough cleaning. Also I think the credit card I used to scrape it off put some very minor markings (dents?) on it. If I lapped it, how many degrees difference do you think it would make? I really don't want to go through the trouble if it's only for 1-2degC since I am not planning on doing any serious overclocking.

What's your load temps? If it's under 60C, I imagine you could do a little OCing, although you won't get very far since the 6400+ is already at it's limits.
