P5GD1 FM/S not booting

Hi all ive been reffered to come here for help with my computer.
I have a custom built pc with 512mb pc3200 400mhz DDR in dual chanel and am running a pentium d3ghz cpu the motherboard i am running is a P5GD1-FM/S made by asus.
the problem i am having is that there is no video output from my nvidia 8400gs video card.
the computer is not booting into windows either as there is no sound nor is the hard drive running up from booting.
i have searched around and the advice been given is try just one memory stick and to try reseating the memory sticks but to no avail the error still carries on.
the processor is new infact the only thing not new is the pc case.
would anyone know of some causes for my issue this is the first time ive ever had a problem with a computer as i am quite experienced with electronics.[ got a advanced diploma in electronics engineering]

Your motherboard and chipset ( I am almost positive that your board has a 915 series chipset, please correct me if I am wrong) do not support dual core CPU's (like your Pentium D)

The first series of chipsets that support dual core CPU's-specifically the Pentium D, are the 945 and 955.

Would there be some sort of bios update or something along those lines which i could "force" the chipset to support the dual core or would i be better off buying a new motherboard altogether?

There is nothing a BIOS update will do that can make a 915 series chipset support a Dual-Core processor.
Unfortunately, I am afraid to run your Pentium D, you will need a new motherboard.

no dual core support....sorry.....my friend had the same board....get a P35 ds3l and give er hell...

It's a chipset limitation that stops a PD from working...
