Ok so here is the deal, i am putting together a PC for my wife's cousin, and it will be primarily used for gaming. Now the budget is $800 with taxes(14%) and shipping included. The site i would like to order from is NCIX (Am open to other suggestions, but would like to stick with one retailer, to save on shipping) From what i got from him, the games he wants to play are Supreme Commander, C&C3, Dawn of War, etc...

So this is what i have picked out so far, i would like some critique/advice

CPU: e6750 - $199.98
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L - $95
RAM: G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB - $68
Video Card: BFG 7950 GX2 - $125 (Buying locally, is brand new, just got returned from RMA)
HDD: WD 320gb SATA2 - $75
PSU: Antec earthwatts 430w - $60

Total: $740ish

He has everything else, so i just need the parts listed. The main questions i have, is would the 7950 do the job for the games he wants? i favor it because of the fact that the 8800 GT are $275+tax. Also, he will be using windows XP, and has no real plans to switch to vista any time soon.

Hey there, Canuck, build you a rig right away, just a minute.

CPU: e4500 - $139.98
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L - $104.34
RAM: Corsair XMS2 PC5400 2GBNQ PC2-6400 2X1GB - $59.99
Video Card: HD3850 - $189.99
HDD: WD 320gb SATA2 - $75
PSU: Corsair VX550W - $89.99

total $660.00 plus tax and shipping.

- Better to have a more powerful GPU, than CPU (OC the E4500 to 3.0).
- MOBO Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L (P35 chipset)
- Memory, would not be overclocked (remember, core2s are NOT fsb limited).
- HD3850 comes to mind, mind you, the 7950x2 is a good card for the price.
- Get a good reliable power supply.

;)

Taken from nvidia page now cached by google:

Q: What is the recommended power supply for GeForce 7950 GX2?
A: The minimum recommended power supply for a single GeForce 7950 GX2 is 400W (with 12V current rating of 27A).

The Earthwatts 430w is ok if it has 27A or more on +12V combined. Earthwatts is a very reliable psu.

The 7950 GX2 is plenty for those games, depending on the monitor resolution.

If the pc isn't overclocked, it's fine.
