Alright, so
stock settings 3DMark06=5330
oc settings= 5550
That's only a 4% gain in score for a 35% OC of the chip!!! Apparently chip speed matters v. little to this bench?
So what's holding me back...the crappy card? go ahead, you can say it, "Dude, your card sucks"
Or I need more RAM?
Or 5500's not a bad score for my setup?
hmmmmm
I'm too lazy to see if FPS in any of me games went up much. Would there be much of an FPS increase by just oc'ing the chip?
Same cpu @ 3.0GHz running 2 x 8800GT512 gives me 14200 3D Mark 06 score. RAM is not an issue for you, either. It's that friggin' card. Get yourself a GT512, GTS512 or 3870x2 or something.

This is going to be good... /popcorn

scotteq...hmmm, well let's see. Yeah it is primarily a vid bench, but gee, i seem to recall there's a couple of CPU (get it...C P U) tests in there as well. Last I checked, a computer should be thought of as a SYSTEM, so my OP still does not seem like an unreasonable question.
Ah well, i learned somethin today, which I kinda thought was the point of forums.

And hopefully what you learned was that improving things in your SYSTEM which aren't the bottleneck doesn't help.
Would you complain that your English exam scores were the same after you stayed up all night studying Calculus?? After all, the Calculus questions you studied were written in English... No, you would not. That would be dumb because you didn't test for the thing you worked on.
Seriously though, we get a lot of similar posts asking why Processor overclocking doesn't help Video benchmarks... The answer is always the same: Your processor isn't the bottleneck in a video benchmark. Think of the same thing in reverse: If you overclock your video card, would you expect to see improvements in Sandra or SuperPI?

Scotteq, this is a rather debatable subject. I have seen many people claiming that 3dmark06 is cpu intensive. I'm not sure if the OP's score is normal or not, but each system is different and will respond differently.
If it makes you feel any better, when I cranked my Q6600 to 3.15GHz, I only had a 600point increase in cpu score. However my total score when up by around 1500points (13444). This is because of what Scotteq has said: The cpu is the limiting factor, so increasing it will bring more potential out of the video card.
