when i first brought my pc it said it had 512 ram but it always said only 256 is installed so after a year i brought 2 512 sticks and added them but had to take the original out because it was not compatable so i should be running a gig now
my pc says its still only running 256 ram

heres the spec which says the ram is installed

anyone know what the problem could be

How much memory does the bios show?
Run CPU-Z and report the amount of memory also.

if reseating ur memory didn't work...go to task manager...(ie hit ctrl-atl-dlt) hit the performance tab and check what your physical memory total is. if its 10240000 k or something real close than your all good. otherwise go through and check your bios settings and make sure there is nothing fishy there. and of course you could always hit the web page for your mobo manufactuer as you may need a bios flash or have a conflict with the memory you have and the board, check offical memory list. there's microsoft tech support, though i doubt they would be of any help. if all else fails get a large hammer and threaten your PC, reboot it three times and if it doesn't work. hit it with the hammer tell you feel better cause your probably has defective memory slots or memory controllor...in which case you need to buy a new cpu and board see if u can fix it swapping things out. find out which is defective and send the unused, if any, parts back to the store for a refund.
