Hi,

I just bought a 2nd WD SATA HDD for my pc. After Installing it, I ran the windows XP error chekcing tool on it and at the end it reported some bad sectors.
so, stupid question #1: Is it normal to have "some" bad sectors on a brand new HDD (I'd assume not)
stupid question #2: Should I care ?
question #3: Is this windows tool reliable ? Isn't there anything better ?

Any help appreciated.

It is NOT normal to have bad sectors. Yes you should care, normally a drive with bad sectors will fail in the very near future. You can use Seatools (dos version) from Seagate to create a disc and boot it to run the program and check the drive. (your drive does not have to be seagate to use the tool)
