I just installed a new GeFOrce 6200oc on an older cpu of mine, this is my first time dabling with video cards
I connected everything, fired it up and there was a msg in dos telling me insert my startup Xp disk
I shut it down and noticed that the HDD cable had come loose,
Reconnected, started it up and this time NO IMAGE....NOTHING!!!
I shut it down, re-installed the original Video Card, and again NOTHING!!!
The cpu is up and running but i have no idea what state its in.
sounds like maybe you pulled a cable loose, try to re-check all connections. reseat the ram(it sometimes gets loose....i have seem it several times....)
Nope nothing, BUT good news, I tore it all down and reconnected slowly and tightly ad it appears to be working again.
I haven't installed the new card yet, but I will after a few tests.
QUick question if someone reads this:
I used Sandra to get me some specs on my motherboard, it is an old ASUS like 2001/2002 - It came with 512mb installed, and has two slots,
Sandra says it is 1gb max, - is that per slot or total. I picked up a 1gb stick - and Sandra shows all 1.5 gigs, but i'm not sure if the cpu actually uses it.
ALso is it better to have two 512mb or a single 1gb??
As for 2 512MB sticks versus a single 1GB stick, Tom's Hardware actually wrote a good article about this question back in October: Dual vs. Single Channel
