Socket AM2 and new proccessors!

Hi, I have a motherboard giga with socket AM2, I have installed an athlon 64 3000+ on my motherborad.
Can I change my cpu with an strongr one like Phenom 2 x3 or phenom 2 x4 or athlon 2 x4 or phenom 2 ,3 or 4 ?

I don't want to change my motherboard.could you guide me please?

  1. AM3 CPUS are backwards compatible with AM2+ motherboard sockets. Depending on the specific motherboard you have, yes, you can upgrade the CPU. However, to recognize a newer CPU, you'll likely need a BIOS update. There's no guarantee that the BIOS update will recognize the new CPU.
  2. Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

    We need to know the specific model of mobo that u have. And the new processor AM3 (if it's supported) will be limited by the RAM and the mobo.
  3. most old AM2 mobos didn't come with enough bios memory or something, so they can't use Phenoms or better.
