This is a question on feasibility and if so how to implement it. First my setup: generic wireless router (g/100mps) running 1)24/7 media server 1) Game rig and 2) Laptops.
What I was wondering was if I could direct connect the Server to the Game rig to transfer large (movie) files using the secondary gigabit ports on each mobo.
Both comps need internet access and creating an ICS through the server is out do to lag on the game rig. Game rig as the ICS pass through is also out as it is a monster power sucking ear bleeding blender.
I do not want to add another item (switch) to my rack or to replace my 1 year old router.
Thank you for any help.

Get a cross-over cable to connect the media server and the gaming rig... connect them via their ethernet ports and then set an ip address on the connected NIC that is in the same subnet.
