Hey, I am tying to upgrade my CPU and memory in my system to try and get the most out of it since prices have gone down. I built it about a year ago and its my first. I think I can say that I feel unfortunate to have bought an AM2 socket mobo, but I want to use it to the max. I have never OC'd my CPU before and I need help deciding what would be best to buy, and also, the easiest and safest way to OC it. I have been looking into the BE of the 6400 and the 5000, but Newegg just deactivated the 6400 BE and I can only find that on Tiger Direct now. Or would it be better to just get the regular 6400? Any help would be much appreciated. I am just itching to upgrade and need to buy something.

i heard 5000+ can overclock to 6400+ speed with a good heatsink.and 6400+ cant overclock much further then what it come with.so save money on the CPU and get a good heatsink to achieve the same result.

but 1 more thing i like to stress!amd is very hard to achieve a good OC.Intel is far easier and virtually is fool proof is you you looking at mild overclock thats more than enough for every purpose(nothing extreme)

OCing an AMD is easy. Increase the FSB, that's about it. You may need to lower the HT and increase vcore, but that's easy too.

=.=" if its easy as you said then i guess this thread wont be here then.and plsu many other thread with AMD overclock issues!!!get a life AMD!!!

It's easier than Intel, that's for sure.

hum ok.lets see if the poster will need to post again with the title "my AMD cant overclock to 2.8G":D

Perhaps you misunderstood. By easier to OC, I meant AMD has less complicated procedures in order to OC. Intel can OC much, much higher, but the process of OCing is more advance.

Just so you know, i decided to go with the 6400 being that it is so cheap now. this way if i have any difficulty, at least it is up there already. I read some good stuff about people getting it up to 3.4/3.5 stable, i dont think that can happen with the 5000.

a mild overclock(that upto 3Ghz on most Core 2) on an intel hardly need to change anything part from the FSB.

The 6400+ has the full cache, I believe, so it will give you a little more performance the the 5000+ at the same clock.

ok, sounds good. does anyone know what happened here:

i was running prime95 just to test my system now before messing with it. i had my Nvidia monitor up to watch temps and stuff. the cpu temp disappeared off of it, so i closed it and tried to open it back up, then it told me my "system does not have BIOS support to launch this program". what happened? do i need to let it finish? it says it wont finish until May 24th or something like that. any help would be appreciated.
